TexasWorks serves adults ages 18–50 seeking to earn a high school diploma and pursue industry certifications via CTE courses. Services include:

Enrollment Process

  • Apply online via SchoolMint

  • Weslaco-specific applications are available via filters → “TexasWorks”

  • Fully enrolled students gain access to all program features (ILP, assessments, childcare, etc.)

Special Considerations:

  • Adults are their own educational guardians

  • GPA calculated, but no class ranks, valedictorian/salutatorian honors

  • All transfer students must follow proper documentation and admin sign-off



Childcare (P.O.P. Program)

  • On-campus, drop-in care for children aged 3 months to 3 years

  • Must be a currently enrolled TXW/PHS student

  • Parents must remain on-site while childcare is provided

Academic Model

TexasWorks follows a mastery-based, flexible, adult-optimized learning model with:

Individual Learning Plan (ILP)

  • Custom plans based on assessments (TABE Locator), prior credits, and career goals

  • Includes academic progress chart, graduation timeline, and course tracking

Curriculum Tracks

  • Traditional Courses (BrightThinker & paper)

  • Credit Recovery (CRTX) – unit-level pretests; exempt if >80%

  • Midterm/Final (MIDTX) – no unit tests; midterm required

  • CTE Certification Tracks

  • College & Career Transitions (CLGTRN) – elective pathway

Graduation & Testing

  • Graduation plan: Foundation (22 credits) or higher

  • Mandatory EOCs (Algebra I, English II, Biology) until Sept 1, 2025

  • CPR, POI (Peace Officer Interaction), and FAFSA/TASFA or Opt-out forms required

  • College application is not required but supported

Assessments

  • TABE Locator (initial) + TABE Reading/Math after 20 days

  • Growth-based instruction & adaptive learning (Essential Ed)

  • Post-test administered after 60 instructional hours

  • NWEA MAP available upon request



Attendance & Drop Policy

  • Attendance includes on-site, virtual, or activity-based engagement

  • Required on campus for:

    • Unit Tests

    • CRTX Pretests

    • Midterms/Finals

    • CTE classes

    • TABE/STAAR Assessments

Absence Protocol:

  • After 3 days: outreach initiated

  • After 5 days: warning issued

  • After 10 days: may be administratively dropped (documentation required)
